Members-in-Training are generally young engineers and geoscientists who have recently graduated.  To apply, you need to complete an application form and send it along with a current resume, the name and contact information for one reference and the registration fee of $125 plus GST ($131.25). 

You also need to contact your university and request a transcript/confirmation be sent directly to APEGGA.

NAPEG will forward a copy of the documents, along with APEGGA's application fee, to the Board of Examiners.   Once you are registered as a Member-in-Training, it means that your academics are acceptable to the Board of Examiners.  You will need to write the National Professional Practice Examination, including the NAPEG Essay, and have four years of acceptable experience to become a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist.  Once you think you have four years of acceptable experience, you would submit your application and experience records and the registration fee of $175 plus GST ($183.75).

To be a Member, you must reside in the Northwest Territories or Nunavut at the time of registration.  You will be registered (once approved by Council) as a Licensee if you reside elsewhere in Canada or in another country.

If you are registered already in another part of Canada, you can apply to become registered with NAPEG under the Inter-Association Mobility Agreement.  This means that you can be registered more quickly.  NAPEG will confirm that you are in good standing with the other Canadian jurisdictions.  To become registered with NAPEG under IAMA, you need to submit a completed application form, including an essay, and submit with the registration fee and a current resume.

If you are not registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, but think you have the education and experience to beome a member or licensee, NAPEG will submit your application and other documentation to the Board of Examiners.

Permit to Practice - General Information

A Permit to Practice is required for firms practicing engineering and geoscience in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.  To become a Permit Holder, the firm must have at least one person registered to assume responsibility for the Permit.  In most cases, there will need to be several individuals registered to assume responsibility for various disciplines.

NAPEG does not have any form of registration for a limited licence or temporary licence or provisional licence.
