Membership

NAPEG Registrants are:

Members:  Professional Engineers and Professional Geoscientists who practice in the Northwest Territories (NWT) and/or Nunavut (NU) and reside in the NWT or NU at the time of their registration.  A licensee should change membership category to become a Member if they become residents of the NWT or NU.  Members have voting rights and may serve on Council.

Licensees:  Professional Engineers and Professional Geoscientis who practice in the NWT and NU and reside outside of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.  This includes outside of Canada.

Members-in-Training:  A Member-in-Training (MIT) is academically qualified to practice engineering or geoscience in the NWT and/or NU as an Engineer-in-Training or a Geoscientist-in-Training under the supervision of a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist.  An MIT has had their academics approved by the NAPEG Board of Examiners and Council.

Other membership categories:

Non-Practicing Members/Licensees:  A Member or Licensee may request non-practicing status if they are not actively practicing engineering or geoscience in the NWT and/or NU.  They can pay reduced annual dues so long as they do not practice in the NWT or NU.  In most cases, the Member or Licensee would be actively practicing in another jurisdiction.  If a non-practicing member or licensee has not been practicing their profession for more than five years, Council is required to have their qualifications reviewed by the NAPEG Board of Examiners.  When a non-practicing member or licensee resumes their practice in the NWT or NU, they are required to advise NAPEG and to pay full annual dues for that year.

Life Members:   A Life Member must be approved by Council.  A Member may request life membership when they have practiced in the NWT and/or NU for 15 or more years and are at least 60 years of age and have retired or are at least 65 years of age.

Distinguished Life Members:  Council, in its discretion by unanimous vote, may confer distinguished life membership in NAPEG upon any Member who has rendered signal service to NAPEG.
