Application Process - REGISTRANT

All engineers, geoscientists and firms practicing engineering and/or geoscience in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (NT/NU) are required to be licensed by NAPEG in adherence to the Acts of the NT/NU.  Follow the steps below to become a registrant with NAPEG.

Step 1: Determine your Applicant Type

Determine your Applicant Type:

  • Mobility Applicants: A Mobility Applicant is a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist who is applying for professional status with NAPEG and is already registered and in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction(s).

  • Reinstatement Applicants: Reinstatement Applicants are a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, Member-in-Training or Firm who had been a registrant of NAPEG at some time in the past and whose registration had lapsed or who had been struck from the register.

  • Applicants Not Already Registered in Another Canadian JurisdictionProfessional Engineer and Professional Geoscientist applicants not already registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, including all Member-in-Training applicants.

Step 2: Determine your Category:

Determine your category in the dropdown menu below:

Professional Engineers are fully licensed individuals who have met the academic, experience and character requirements set out in the Act. A Professional Engineer is registered as either a Member (reside in Northwest Territories or Nunavut) or Licensee (resides elsewhere).

Professional Geoscientists are fully licensed individuals who have met the academic, experience and character requirements set out in the Act. A Professional Geoscientist is registered as either a Member (reside in Northwest Territories or Nunavut) or Licensee (resides elsewhere).

TBD

MITs are engineers or geoscientists who have recently graduated and are working toward gaining the required experience. NAPEG works with APEGA to process applications for MITs in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

1. Submit Initial Application to NAPEG: Complete the Application for Registration and submit required documents (e.g., resumé, ID, application fee).

2. Receive Verification Code from NAPEG: After review, NAPEG will provide a Verification Code.

3. Complete Application on APEGA’s Website: Use the Verification Code to submit your application on APEGA’s platform.

Note: MITs are required to complete the NPPE (National Professional Practice Examination) as part of their journey to becoming fully licensed. For more information, visit APEGA’s NPPE page.

Professional Engineers and Geoscientists who are not practicing in the NorthWest Territories and Nunavut and want to remain on the register may request a chance in status to Non-Practicing. Non-Practicing Members and Licensees must show (Non-Practicing) after their designation and must complete a declaration confirming they will not practice without being reinstated to active status.

A Member may apply to Council for Life Membership if they meet the requirements set out in the bylaws, including having practiced in the Northwest Territories and/or Nunavut for more than 25 years. Life Members are not required to pay annual dues. Retired Life Members will indicate (Retired) after their designations and are not required to pay their Annual Dues.

Council, in its discretion by unanimous vote, may confer Distinguished Life Membership in NAPEG upon any member who has rendered signal service to the Association. Distinguished Life Members who are practicing will need to complete an online renewal, pay Annual Dues, and submit an annual report on Continuing Professional Development.

Council, in its discretion by unanimous vote, may confer Honorary Membership in NAPEG upon any person who has given eminent service to the profession. Honorary Members do not pay dues and do not have voting or practice rights.

Step 3: Review Fees

FEES AND PROFESSIONAL STAMPS

The application fee, annual dues and stamp fee (if applicable) must be submitted with your completed application. Application fees are non-refundable. The only circumstance that the annual dues and stamp fee would be refunded is if your application for registration was not approved by Council and/or Registrar.

Payment of annual dues and the stamp fee (if applicable) are not required for Member-In-Training and New Professional applicants at the time of your application.
