Board Vacancies: Plan Review Appeals Board (PRAB)
The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is seeking qualified individuals to serve on the newly formed Plan Review Appeals Board (PRAB). Several vacancies remain, and applications are required before the Board can be fully established.
The PRAB is responsible for hearing appeals of orders issued through the plan review process. Establishing this Board is a key step in bringing recent amendments to the Fire Prevention Act into force, including the creation of an appeal mechanism requested by stakeholders.
Board Composition Requirements
The Board must include:
- At least one Professional Engineer (as defined under the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act)
- At least one architect (as defined under the Architects Act)
- At least one individual registered in a Canadian jurisdiction as a building code professional, or equivalent, with National Building Code experience
- Up to two additional members from other relevant professions
Term and Responsibilities
Board members are appointed for a three-year term. As a new Board, members will also contribute to the development of initial guidelines and procedures in alignment with legislative requirements.
All travel, accommodation, meal expenses, and honouraria for hearing attendance are covered in accordance with Government of the Northwest Territories rates.
