Position: Chief Executive Officer
Number of Positions: 1
Application Deadline: November 30, 2019
Job Location: Halifax
Job Term: Permanent Full Time

Engineers Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for the more than 7,000 Professional Engineers and Engineers-in-Training practicing in Nova Scotia or on Nova Scotia projects. With respect to the profession of Engineering, Engineers Nova Scotia has a mission to serve and protect the public interest, advance and promote the value and proficiency of the engineering profession, and support members in their professional practice.

Reporting to the elected Engineers Nova Scotia Council, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides executive leadership and management for the organization’s strategic plan, financial operations, and broader administration and plays a vital role in ensuring the continued success of Engineers Nova Scotia. The CEO provides operational continuity for the organization and works under the direction of Council to develop and administer policies, procedures, and programs that enhance the association and allow for the fulfillment of its established long-term goals. The CEO provides inspiring and diligent leadership for a strong senior team and all association personnel. The CEO also serves as the public face of the association, representing Engineers Nova Scotia on regional and national initiatives and forging lasting relationships with and amongst the members of the Engineering industry. By conducting effective sector research and staying on top of emerging issues and trends affecting the engineering community, the CEO also provides advice to Council on long-term strategy and decision-making.

As the ideal candidate, you have senior leadership experience within a multi-stakeholder organization. You bring strong operational and financial expertise and demonstrated successful experience leading a team. A natural communicator, you understand the value and impact of consensus building and have the ability to work collaboratively, diplomatically, and strategically with Council, government, private and public sector leaders, other associations, and an extensive volunteer base drawn from membership. You are articulate and poised and would be comfortable serving as the public face of an organization. You see the big picture and have the ability to successfully contribute at a highly strategic level. Those that know you well would describe you as collaborative, trustworthy, compassionate, diplomatic, ethics-driven, innovative, and committed. Designation as a Professional Engineer and/or experience working in a self-regulating profession or within a regulatory body would be considered assets to your candidacy but are not required. Above all, you have a passion for the engineering sector in Nova Scotia and are ready to add value to an already successful organization in this senior leadership position.

Engineers Nova Scotia seeks to create an organization which is representative of the diverse stakeholders it serves. Engineers Nova Scotia welcomes and encourages applications from women, Indigenous persons, African Nova Scotians and other racially visible persons, and persons with disabilities.
