Duties and Responsibilities include: 

Leadership:

  • Lead by example and comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Lead, oversee and support the environmental geoscientists within the HSE&RR department and mentor the team in their technical project based work
  • Ensure team alignment through regular meetings and coordination on all projects
  • Ensure team is coordinated with other departments within Orano Canada for the completion of project work within assigned timelines
  • Oversee contractors and consultants conducting engineering and scientific studies on Orano Canada’s behalf
  • Oversee and assist in the preparation of technical reports and documents that reach a variety of audiences ranging from internal circulation to regulatory review
  • Drive continuous improvement through the incorporation of technical advancement in the geo-environmental area, for the necessity of the new projects progressing, current progressed, and decommissioned sites
  • Work collaboratively with personnel and other departments, to find solutions, prepare reasoned arguments, and achieve project objectives

 Technical Expertise:

  • Develop a sound knowledge of the Company’s operations along with the technical requirements imposed by legislation and various permits and licenses
  • Execute field investigations for the purposes of hydrogeological site characterization, installation of monitoring instrumentation, tailings and waste rock testing and characterization, and assessment of mine de-watering requirements
  • Assess waste management facility performance in comparison with design criteria based on operational or post-closure monitoring
  • Effectively communicate to internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, on issues related to hydrogeology and solute transport
  • Provide technical support to site operations staff in the areas of environmental monitoring, reporting and resolution of technical issues requiring geotechnical, geochemical, or hydrogeological expertise
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on projects including engineering and scientific studies, environmental assessments, follow-up programs, and licensing of mining projects
  • Responsible for the provision of technical support to site operations staff in the areas of environmental monitoring, reporting, and resolution of technical issues requiring geotechnical, geochemical, or hydrogeological expertise

 Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

  • University degree (preferably at post graduate level) in a geotechnical, hydrogeological, or geochemical area
  • Minimum 10-15 years’ related experience
  • Knowledge of codes and regulations pertaining to mining and environmental protection
  • Strong background in numerical modeling of groundwater flow and solute transport
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to present complex technical information in a clear manner both internally and to external stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate activities, information, materials & resources within own area of responsibility to meet tight deadlines and work under time pressure
  • Experience in supervising technical experts

 Work Location & Schedule: 

  • Primarily based out of the Saskatoon Corporate Office
  • Occasional trips to the mill, mine, exploration, project or decommissioned sites may be required during some field work periods
