Senior Geotechnical Engineer
$80,823.09 – $107,139.89 annually plus 6.5% recruitment and retention adjustment

With BC’s huge variety of terrain and environmental conditions, it is one of North America’s most challenging environments to build and maintain safe and reliable transportation infrastructure. That’s what makes being a Geotechnical Engineer with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure so exciting – you get to do meaningful and challenging work that helps millions of people across the province.

You may wear many hats as a Geotechnical Engineer with the Ministry – some days you’ll be providing advice or doing design work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is building a new road or bridge. Other days you may be assessing a recent landslide to determine if the road is safe to re-open, or providing advice on whether a future housing development should be built in a certain area. One thing you definitely will do is be able to point at a specific road or bridge when you’re driving around the province and know that you played a key part in getting it built.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in Geological, Geotechnical or Civil (specialized in Geotechnical Engineering) Engineering or equivalent as recognized by Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration as Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as currently registered as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian jurisdiction, and/or able to obtain registration in BC within 6 months of employment.
  • Minimum 5 years Licensed Professional experience (not including Engineer-in-Training status years) in one or more of the following: pavement design, foundation design, geotechnical assessments, materials engineering, geohazard assessment, or field assessments.
