 Under the direction of the Manager provides civil and hydrological designs.  As a senior Engineer he will also be responsible for providing advice and guidance to other engineers as appropriate.  This may also include civil advice on non-hydro related projects.   The position is also required to perform engineering work on complex hydro plant and infrastructure maintenance issues which will also include assisting Hydro Operations with hydraulic and hydrological analysis and annual flow forecasting  (e.g. estimating annual runoff volumes using snow survey data and river flow station data, expected spillway flows & reservoir levels, etc.). There are currently six hydroelectric generating stations within NTPC’s hydro system. The current individually hydroelectric generating stations and related infrastructure range in name plate generating capacity from 3 MW to 20 MW.

 Responsibilities:

·         In collaboration with Hydro Operational staff and using the Dam Safety Guidelines issued by the Canadian Dam Association, coordinates and subsequently manages the mandatory Dam Safety Review of NTPC’s hydroelectric facilities and program.

·        Provides, on a regular basis to the Manager, written and verbal progress reports on Design Section issues as they relate to hydro.  Prepares, submits and/or presents to Senior Management, written technical reports, project briefs, and other technical and Design Hydro Section related documentation.

·        Assists Asset Managers with civil and hydrological design work in support of hydroelectric projects and provides hydroelectric technical advice on existing and new design and engineering issues to the Project Managers.

·        Performs hydraulic calculations and analysis for conceptual and preliminary design and sizing of new or upgraded hydro plants, hydraulic structures, such as spillways, culverts, penstocks, canals, sluice and flood gates, stop logs, etc.

·        Provides civil conceptual, preliminary and final design services related to new and existing hydro generating stations and infrastructure. Services for existing hydro facilities may include upgrades, rehabilitation and occasionally maintenance work.

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required

·        Must be eligible for membership in NAPEG

·        Eight years of civil design, analysis and construction experience related to hydroelectric power generation. This will include conventional design and also a level of problem-solving ability beyond standard issues.

·        A sound understanding of and skill in civil engineering activities for hydroelectric design, construction and commissioning purposes

·   Demonstrated working knowledge of hydraulic analysis and design related to river/open channel flows, spillways, stilling basins, reservoir freeboard, culverts, penstocks etc

·        Strong analytical, organizational, planning and execution skills

 Salary for this position ranges from $57.98/hr-$70.46/hr. There are also location and accommodation allowances of approximately $8, 842 per annum.
