Job Opportunity

I/O Design & Engineering is seeking a Mechanical or Structural Engineer with 5 to 15 years experience to work in their Trail, BC office. The position will focus on engineering analysis, calculation packages and drawing checks and reviews. Professional registration, or immediate eligibility for registration, with EGBC is required. 

You must demonstrate a willingness to embrace feedback regarding your work and to integrate your skills and processes into I/O Design & Engineering proven workflows. 

A qualified candidate must possess the following attributes:

• Strong understanding of technical engineering analysis with a focus on structural or mechanical engineering for heavy industry.
• Well developed knowledge of steel fabrication.
• Understanding of the role engineering designs play in the constructability of equipment and structures. 
• Detailed oriented approach to drawing checks and reviews to address fabrication and constructability. 
• Desire to see the entire team succeed through continuous learning and mentorship. 
• Commitment to growth and change through demonstrated ability to accept feedback and learn the processes that contribute to I/O Design & Engineering’s success. 

Engineering knowledge and skills that will contribute to your success in this position include:

• A passion for technical engineering design.
• The ability to quantify a problem in the field.
• Attention to detail in all aspects of professional work including calculations, drawing checks, communications, and information management.
• A practical approach to engineering with an understanding and respect for how designs will be fabricated and implemented.

The applicant must have the willingness to:

• Conduct field work in large and complex industrial facilities.
• Assist in the development of engineering scopes, costs, and schedules. 
• Quantify a design concept through detailed engineering analysis.
• Work with designers to create detailed fabrication drawings.
• Seal designs as a professional engineer.

Knowledge in any one of the following areas would be an asset:

• Structural Steel / Concrete design.
• Lifting devices. 
• Piping design.
• Industrial HVAC engineering.
• Furnace / molten metal handling equipment design.
• Autodesk Inventor 3D or AutoCad 2D.

Specific knowledge of any of the following would be an asset:

• Smelting
• Mining
• Pulp and Paper
• Hydroelectric
• Manufacturing
• Marine Structures / Port Facilities
