Engineering and Geoscience Week is just around the corner from February 24 to March 3, 2018, and NAPEG is inviting you to take part in this year’s 17th Annual Bridge Building Competition for elementary, junior and senior high school students to discover the exciting worlds of science and math. The Competition also includes categories for the General Public and for Professional Engineers, Geoscientists, Architects, and Technologists of the Northwest Territories or Nunavut.  

We would be happy to provide you with a package containing all the supplies that you will need, along with a copy of the Rules, Guidelines and Entry Forms. Please contact NAPEG at 867-920-4055 or email Chelsea to request a kit(s) and let us know if you would like to participate this year! All model bridge entries should be received at the NAPEG office by February 23, 2017. Judging will take place at Centre Square Mall in Yellowknife on March 3, 2018. 

The model bridges will be judged on design, aesthetics and strength and must be received by NAPEG by February 23, 2018. There are five categories of competition within the Schools:

Category 1 – School Students in Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 5 (This category includes community groups such as Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Scouts, etc.)

Category 2 – School Students in Grades 6 to 8 (This category includes community groups such as Pathfinders, Scouts, etc.)

Category 3 – School Students in Grades 9 to 12 (This category includes community groups (Pathfinders, Senior Branches, Ventures, etc.)

Please note, NAPEG will provide the model bridge kits free of charge to all schools in the North and Nunavut, as well as to community groups dedicated primarily to children (e.g. Scouts & Guides) – Categories 1, 2 & 3.

Category 4: General Public

Category 5: Engineers, Geoscientists, Architects and Technologists

Please note, there is an entry fee of $20 for competitors in Categories 4 & 5.

The following prizes will be awarded to the winning teams in Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4.

For School and Community Team winners, the prize cheque will be made out to the teacher or team leader. Please note, there are no prizes for winners in Category 5, other than bragging rights.

Please Note:

  • A maximum of ten (10) bridge entries will be accepted per school. 
  • Up to four (4) bridge entries will be accepted per community group. No individual entrant in these categories may be age 20 or older. If you are 20, or older, you would be considered General Public.
